Thousands respond to IAF recruitment rally in Srinagar

Srinagar, More than two thousand Kashmiri youths today appeared in the written tests of the Indian Air Force (IAF) during the recruitment rally at Bakshi stadium near here.

Though the rally was to start at 0915 hrs, but unemployed youths reached the gates of the stadium two to three hours before the test began.

Several candidates said they had reached the from far-flung and remote areas of the valley yesterday to ensure that they reach the stadium well on time.

A UNI correspondent, who visited the stadium, saw IAF and other personnel checking the documents of the candidates before allowing them to appear in the examination.

A senior officer said youths from the Kashmir valley will be recruited in the IAF.

The authorities had recently arranged coaching for the candidates who intended to participate in the IAF recruitment rally.

The candidates, belonging to tehsil Handwara, underwent coaching at Boys Higher Secondary School Handwara, while those who belonged to tehsils of Kupwara and Karnah were given training at district Institute of Education and Trainings, Kupwara.

The move was aimed at absorbing unemployed educated youth of the state in the IAF, they said.

Border Security Force, Central Reserve Police Force and the Army have been conducting such recruit meat rallies in the Kashmir valley for the past one decade.
