New York, A local judge has found a high school student guilty on three counts for attacking a Sikh boy in a Richmond Hill high school in Queens, one of the city’s five boroughs.

Jagmohan Singh Premi was violently attacked in June last year by his fellow student, who had also tried to drag his turban. The student punched Jagmohan repeatedly with his fist in which the pointed end of a key was protruding, according to a statement released yesterday by community organisation Sikh Coalition.

Jagmohan suffered laceration under his left eye and other injuries. The student was not identified as he was a minor and Fran Lubow, the Queens Family Court judge, was scheduled to sentence the student on September 9.

”The student has a history of harassing Jagmohan, which was known to Jagmohan’s teachers and the school itself,” the statement said. ”In fact, on several occasions, Jagmohan’s father brought the harassment issue to the teachers’ attention, but the school did nothing to stop it,” it added.

A trial was conducted after juvenile proceedings were instituted against the City of New York in the Queens Family Court. The trial, which included a testimony by Jagmohan, was conducted by the judge, who issued her findings earlier this week. The three counts were: assault in the second degree, aggravated harassment in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, according to the statement.
