Pak’s visit to India will help cement sporting ties: Qamar

Lahore, Appreciating Pakistan’s move to send its national squash team to India for the World Junior Squash Championships, former World Champion Qamar Zaman said the government’s efforts will help cement sporting ties with the neighbouring country in near future.
Qamar, who was named as the manager-cum-coach of the six-member Pakistani squad that would leave for New Delhi on July 25, wants sporting ties with India to be continued.
He was pleased with both the governments for their continuing efforts in cementing sporting ties and exchange of visits.
Qamar also hailed the Pakistan government for giving a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the squash team’s visit to Chennai in India.
”The squash team visit would be a roadmap for similar kind of sporting ties from both sides in future,” Qamar, who is also the vice president of Pakistan Squash Federation, said.
”It is better for durable friendship and peace and such sporting ties would certainly develop a sense of understanding between the two neighboring countries and its people,” he was quoted as saying by ‘The Daily Mail’.
Speaking about the performance of the national players in the World Junior Squash Championship, he said the team comprises of top players like Nasir Iqbal, Farhan Zaman, Maria Torpakai and Zoya, who have tuned up for tough battles.
”We are expecting tough fight from Egyptians but otherwise the team has enough potential and capability to show good result against other world teams taking part in the event,” Qamar opined.
Qamar further lauded the Pakistan Squash Federation on its stance of selecting team on merits.
”It was actually performance based selection of the players for important event and certainly the players are eager to show their worth,” he said, adding that the selected players will have an exposure of international squash and ”hopefully the result would be better”.
The World Junior Squash Championships will commence from July 28 to August 2, in Chennai.
