Kathmandu, Nepal Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal this morning visited the diarrhoea affected mid-western districts of Rukum and Jajarkot, local media reports said.

He was accompanied by Health Minister Umakanta Chaudhari, high ranking officials of the Health Ministry and other political leaders.

The main opposition party, the UCPN(Maoist), has accused the government of not being serious about controlling the outbreak that has already accounted more than 150 lives in the country.

Mr Nepal had yesterday inquired about the activities being carried out to prevent and control the epidemic so that he could take required steps to curb the disease.

”The PM issued directives to find out the cause of diarrhoea outbreak, generate awareness among the people to control the disease, effectively mobilise health workers, volunteers and distribute medicines to the affected areas, and submit regular report to the Office of Prime Minister and Council of Ministers,” said a press statement issued by the Office of Prime Minister.

More than 100,000 people have been affected by the epidemic. The disease is spreading fast in the eastern part of the district where the health workers and medicines are yet to reach.

The Prime Minister will return to Kathmandu by this afternoon.
