Hyderabad, Even as the entire country was paying homage to the martyrs of the Kargil war today, family members of martyrs here led by Communist Party of India activists were prevented from paying tributes at the War memorial here.

Upset family members staged a protest outside the War memorial. The disappointed activists lamented that though they were paying tributes on Vijay Diwas every year, they were being prevented by the defence authorities to go near the War memorial for the last two years.

It was on this day in 1999 that the Indian armed forces had defeated the Pakistani Army at the heights of Batalik, Kargil and Drass sectors in Jammu and Kashmir.
