New Delhi, Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal today expressed concern over bad condition of Municipal Corporation of Delhi hospitals and asked the corporation to work towards its betterment.
”The MCD hospitals do not have proper infrastructure to treat the patients and so they have to be referred to private hospitals.
However, the high fees of doctors in private hospitals add to their woes,” Mr Sibal told mediapersons.
He was here to inaugurate a waiting hall in Kasturba Hospital in Darya Ganj area.
Mr Sibal asked Delhi Mayor Kanwar Sain, who was also present on the occasion, to spend more in improving the conditions of the hospitals and assured the hospital authorities to provide more money, if needed.
Dr Sain, however, when the Union Minister left from the venue, expressed dissatisfaction on the part of funds provided to them.
”There is lack of funds. We are ready to make the changes. In fact, the proposals have also been submitted and passed. But due to less funds, they are not implemented,” he said.
Thanking Mr Sibal for his contribution of Rs 15 lakh for the construction of the 140 square metre hall, Dr Madhur Kudesia, Medical Superintendent, said the waiting hall, with a capacity of about 250 people, was an urgent requirement of the hospital, ”The patients, along with their relatives, had to wait under sheds.
Sometimes, the condition of ill people used to get worse because of waiting outside,” she noted.
Dr Kudesia also mentioned a few more things needed urgently in the hospital and sought further help from Mr Sibal. ”There is no OPD for surgical, eye and skin departments and ICU in the hospital and it also requires renovation. We request the minister to please see through these also,” she added.
