Indian Sikh girl in US army felicitated by DMC

New Delhi, The Delhi Minorities Commission (DMC) today felicitated Ms Maninder Kaur Singh, who has been working with the US army for the last five years and was in the city on her way to Darbar Sahib, Amritsar.

Ms Singh was felicitated by Mr Pushpinder Singh, member of the DMC, who opined that she had made the country proud by working for the US army in Baghdad.

DMC chairman Kamal Farooqui and its member Arnold James also praised her for being an example of women empowerment.

Talking to mediapersons, Ms Singh informed she had worked in Baghdad for a year with 20,000 US soldiers.

Elaborating her background, Ms Singh said she was born in Jalandhar and migrated to New Jersey 18 years back. Her father S Sawaran Singh is a banker while she is currently studying law in the US city.

Appealing to stop practices like female infanticide, she pointed out that women are a pillar of today’s society and can be seen in different fields like science and technology and research.

She also expressed pride on being an Indian woman and thanked her parents for their support.

Ms Singh will be visiting different parts of Punjab and interact with students of various universities there.
