New Delhi, The Indian Medical Association(IMA) today urged the competent authorities to withdraw all taxes like Service tax from plastic and cosmetic surgery.
”Already the private health sector is taxed heavily. They are paying House tax for their clinics/nursing homes, water and electricity bills and even registration fees of their establishments on commercial rates. These taxes are already making medical treatment very expensive for the common man,” Association Secretary General Dr Dharam Prakash told a press conference at IMA headquarters here this afternoon.
He said any other additional tax on medical facilities was likely to increase the burden on the community further.
IMA National president Dr Ashok Adhao (Nagpur) said although the government has reduced taxes on life saving emergency drugs and certain devices which are used for heart patients, the Association demands that there should not be any taxes on such drugs and equipment so that the patients are benefited by the abolition of such taxes which will make treatment more affordable.
