House catches fire; 3 children burnt alive

New Delhi, Three children were burnt alive and their mother and two siblings suffered serious burns when a house caught fire in Shahabad Dairy locality in outer Delhi late last night, fire officials said today.

The deceased were identified as Shivani(10), Rajrani(2) and Babu(1 ½ months old), while those among the injured were mother Kamlesh(30), Deepak and Baby. Kamlesh’s husband was not present at their B-1311 residence of Shahabad Dairy home when the house caught fire, the officials added.

All the injured were admitted to Maharishi Dayanand Hospital, where their condition was stated to be serious.

Police received the information about the fire at 2315 hrs and immediately two fire engines and a police team rushed to the spot.

But by the time they reached the spot, the house was engulfed in raging flames. The firefighters broke open the door of the house and evicted all its occupants.

Neigbours said a smell of kerosene oil was emanating from the house the moment it caught fire.

Police did not rule out any foul play and said it may be possible that the husband after setting the house alight might have fled.

Police were investigating.
