ExNora, Velammal launches campaign on global warming

Chennai, Buoyed by the success of the ‘88888′ Lights out campaign last year, ExNora International, a NGO in the field of Environment protection, in association with Velammal Educational Trust today launched the 99999 Lights out campaign to save the ”Mother Earth” and create an awareness on Global Warming.
The ‘Save the Earth 99999 Lights out’ campaign is to switch off lights for nine minutes at 2100 hrs on the ninth day of ninth month (September) of the ninth year of this millennium(2009).
People from different walks of life, including legal fraternity, educational institutions, Film, TV, Radio, Trade Unions, Bank, Industries, NGOs and the media participated in the function by joining hands to fight against global warming.
During the function, a list of 60 mega events to be conducted in the run-up to the September 9 campaign, was released.
Speaking on the occasion, ExNora founder M B Nirmal and Velammal Educational Trust CEO M V M Velmurugan said the aim of the ”99999 Lights out”, was to sensitise the people about the causes, consequences and solutions of global warming.
”Mother Earth is taking its biggest blow, as the consequences of global warming have started to unleash, posing a major threat to humanity,” they added.
A pledge to protect the Mother Earth and to save it was taken at the function.
Saluting the Mother Earth, people took oath stating ”Mother Earth you have been taking care of us. Now Time has come for us to take care of you…We salute you”.
Among those who participated in the function, included well known advocate Ms Nalini Chidambaram, film actor Prashanth, actress Swarnamalya, Radio Jockey Dheena, Madras High Court Additional Public Prosecutor Hasan Mohammed Jinnah and All India Bank Employees Association General Secretary and Chief Coordinator of All India 99999 Lights out Campaign C H Venkatachalam.
