Bangalore, Union Minister of State for Railways K H Muniyappa today said the day train service between Bangalore and Mangalore would be introduced by the end of this month.

Talking to newspersons here, he said a long pending demand of passengers would be fulfilled by the end of this month.

”I assure that the train service between the two cities would be introduced within this month,” he added.

To a question on Hubli-Ankola new railway line, he said the matter was pending for clearance with the Union Ministry of Environment.

” I have spoken to Mr Jayaram Ramesh in this regard and I would met him with Railway engineers within a week in New Delhi and find ways to get clearance from the Environment Ministry.” About doubling of Bangalore-Mysore railway line, he said the work had been completed upto Ramanagaram and shifting of a monument at Srirangapatna by the Karnataka Government was being awaited.

”Once the state government shifts the monument the work can be taken up. However, it would take two and- a-half years to complete the doubling work,” he said.

Mr Muniyappa said he would meet Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa and discuss pending railway projects in the state.

”The Chief Minister has already agreed to bear 50 per cent of the project cost, but speedy handover of land required for various projects is also important,” he added.

The Minister said it was proposed to construct multi-function complexes at Hubli and Mysore stations with facilities like Shopping, food plazas, restaurants, book stalls, PCO/STD/ISD/FAX booths, medicine and variety stores, budget hotels and underground parking.

A burn unit would be set up at Railway Hospital in Bangalore with all facilities to treat patients who sustain burn injuries, he said, adding a Medical College would be set up at Mysore and would be attached to Railway Hospital on Public-Private Participation (PPP).

Mr Muniyappa said in the Railway Budget for 2009-10, presented by Railway Minister Mamata Banarjee yesterday, Rs 543.36 crore had been allocated for Karnataka for new lines (Rs 202.58 cr), Guage conversion (Rs 98.06 cr), Doubling (Rs 231.24 cr) and for Electrification (Rs 11.48 cr).
