Vijayawada, The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has said it was not possible for the Andhra Pradesh government to ‘take over’ the affairs of the Andhra Cricket Association (ACA), following the recent crisis involving its former General Secretary V Chamundeswaranath, according to its President and BCCI fixtures committee member Gokaraju Gangaraju.
Gangaraju, who attended the BCCI fixtures commitee meeting in Mumbai on July 1 told a press conference here today that the BCCI officials had informed him that they came to know through media reports the ‘turmoil’ in the ACA after Mr Chamundeswaranath resorted to alleged fraudulent practices in purchase of chairs and gym equipment for ACA-VDCA stadium in Visakhapatnam, maintenance contract of flood lights of the stadium, tampering of ACA bylaws and sexual harassment on women cricketers.
He said he also conveyed the Andhra Pradesh government’s reported decision on the take over of ACA to BCCI legal cell who ruled out it and added so far no cricket associations had been run by governments in the country.
Gangaraju said the 28 ACA members who attended the exeuctive meeting held last month were ‘unanimous’ on suspending Mr Chamundeswaranath from the general secretary post.
He said the members who attended the last meeting and today’s executive meeting had not raised any objection against removing Mr Chamundeswaranath from the post, and added the minutes of the meeting was circulated to all the members.
When reminded that Mr Chamundeswaranath had approached a court in Guntur stating the executive meeting held in June was ”illegal”, Mr Gangaraju said the ACA has so far not taken any legal recourse over the issue and explained that Mr Chamundeswaranath could still continue as General Secretary of ACA if he proved that he was not involved in any fraudulent practices.
Stating that the BCCI has lent its full support to the ACA in the present crisis, Mr Gangaraju said the ACA had given Mr Chamundeswaranath 21 days time to give his explanation to the allegations.
The ACA General Body meeting to be held on July 26 will finalise its stand after studying the report submitted by Mr Chamundeswaranath for further action, he said.
