22 villages in Kurukshetra to have solar lights

Chandigarh, The Haryana government has selected 22 villages of Kurukshetra district for the installation of solar street lighting system under the scheme of Scheduled Caste Special Component Programme.
Giving this information here today, an official spokesman disclosed that the villages having more than 50 per cent SC population had been provided modern and efficient solar lights. He said that with the installation of this system, the village streets would be illuminated and there would be no power cuts.
The lights were being installed free of cost and this system was eco-friendly and easy to operate. The solar street system automatically gets switched on during the night and gets switched off in the morning when the sun rises because of Solar Photovaltic System.
The cost of one such street light was around Rs 23,100. The work of installation of 402 such lights was going on and total cost of this project was Rs 92,86,200.
