Oxo- Biodegradable bags future to solving plastic problems

Oxo- biodegradable bags- “BIOBIN” with disinfectant properties were launched in Chennai today. This is the first time in India that biodegradable bags with disinfectant properties and fragrance have been launched. These bags have special characteristics that help them degrade faster and are hence environmental friendly.
Speaking at the launch Mr. Rajesh Khetan, Director, Sun Star Trading said, “Plastic contamination is of major concern to environmentalist all over the world, therefore there is a huge demand for bio-degradable products in the industry today. Hospitals & Hotels use a large number of plastic bags every month. Using our biodegradable bags they will be able to contain the pollution to the environment by a great percentage.”
Mr.C.L.Muthiah, Director, Sun Star Trading also said “Our bags are produced using the d2w™ technology from Symphony Environment Inc, UK, who are the world’s second leading manufacturer of biodegradable products. BIOBIN bags are available in different sizes and can be custom made to suit the client’s requirements. Using this technology BIO BIN bags are similar to the ordinary plastic bags in terms of strength, clarity and printing properties. The technology is based on the use of an additive which can be combined with any blend of polyethylene or polypropylene resins during the standard production process.”
He also said,”One of the major benefits of using this technology is that d2w™ plastics can be engineered to start to degrade in as little as 60 days or as long as 5 - 6 years, depending on the requirements of the product. Totally degradable plastics will degrade harmlessly ultimately leaving only H2O, CO2 and biomass in negligible quantities.
