10 engg colleges to vie in DRDO competition

Bangalore, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has embarked upon a new programme to encourage young engineering students all over the country.

Talking to reporters here today, DRDO Chief Controller (R and D) Dr Prahlada said a nationwide competition was organised for designing employable ‘Low Cost Outdoor Surveillance System’ and ten best engineering colleges had been selected to demonstrate their designs at the DRDO’s test range near Kolar, about 80 km from here on June 9.

The two best designs would be given cash prizes of Rs three lakh and Rs two lakh, respectively, he added.

He said the intention of the competition, which was being organised as part of the DRDO Golden Jubilee Celebrations, was to nurture the best talent in the country.

The most innovative idea in the surveillance system designed by these students would be patented and used for military applications, he said.

As many as 270 engineering college teams from all over the country had submitted their preliminary design approach paper.

The top ten colleges selected to demonstrate their designs are, Amity School of Engineering and Technology of Noida, Delhi College of Engineering, IIT Madras, Madras Institute of Technology, NIT Suratkal of Mangalore, NIT, Silchar of Assam, Rajalakshmi Engineering College of Chennai, Sri Ram Murti Smarak College of Engineering and Technology of Bareilly, Thapur University of Patiala and Veeramata Jijabai Technological institute of Mumbai.
