State to boost NCC activities at senior level: CM

Shimla,Himachal Pradesh Government would motivate students to take up NCC along with studies and create more NCC battalions in the State to boost their chances of entering the defence services, Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal said here today.

In a meeting of NCC Officers, the Chief Minister said the State Government would extend all possible assistance to the NCC authorities to identify suitable locations for training and camping activities of the NCC cadets. He said the State NCC directorate had been organising various training and camping programmes of cadets visiting the hill state from different parts of the country.

With a view to carry out the official functioning more smoothly, 10 senior assistants and 10 clerks would be provided on priority while 15 drivers would also be engaged on contract basis, Prof Dhumal said, adding that the NCC authorities would also be permitted to engage labour on man-day basis.

Prof Dhumal said efforts would also be made to consider requisitioning of services of ex-servicemen to take up some of the operations of the NCC in the State.

The Chief Minister said best efforts would be made to ensure that the auxiliary NCC officers were transferred to educational institutions having NCC and honorarium sould be paid to them as per the Government of India norms.

He said NCC was one of the vital activities for the youth for overall development of their personality and would further boost their prospects in the defence services.

Brig Rajinder Singh, Deputy Director General, NCC, detailed the requirements of the State NCC and urged for immediate action.
