New Delhi, Kannadigas of Delhi today celebrated Basava Jayanti to spread the message of devotion, peace and love for the humanity given by Karnataka’s 12th century saint and social reformer Basaveshwara.
The event organised by Dehali Kannadiga, a monthly, recalled the contributions of Basaveshwara and the Vachana Sahitya, the poetic renderings of Veerashaiva scholars.
Dehali Kannadiga Editor M B Samaga urged the Railways to run a Garib Rath train between Delhi and Bangalore and name it after Basaveshwara to acknowledge his contribution to the nation.
The Karnataka Government should build a cultural museum and a guest house in the national capital. He urged the Delhi Government to provide an appropriate place for the people belonging to Veerashaiva community to burying their dead and spare them the trouble of taking the bodies all the way back to their homes.
