Aizawl, Jan 12Â Three militants, behind the 1999 Vaitin ambush that killed five policemen and two civilians, have been arrested by the police.
The militants were arrested from KT hotel at Zarkawt here on Friday night, barely a day after the state home minister warned militants staying in Mizoram to leave the state.
”Luck added to our perseverance in arresting the militants. The arrest was a proof that we never rest until we bring to justice the culprits who killed us on our own soil,” a CID official told UNI here today.
According to the source, the arrested militants belong to the Manipur-based United People’s Party of Kangleipak, an offspring of PREPAK. The armed wing of UPPK is Kangleipak People’s Army, the source said.
Vaitin outpost officer-in-charge and four of his men, including two civilians, were killed in the ambush that took place on March 24, 1999.
